When COVID-19 began to present itself in Nova Scotia, Halifax Partnership’s focus turned to supporting businesses in responding to the global health crisis. The Virtual Adviser Program in partnership with BoomersPlus was launched to help companies overcome a new challenge they were facing because of the pandemic with the help of an experienced professional.

We caught up with program participant Maureen Farmer, CEO & Founder of Westgate Executive Branding & Career Consulting Inc. who shared her story.

How Virtual Adviser helped Westgate

Not unlike other consulting businesses, when COVID-19 hit, the phone became quiet. I began to worry the investments we had made in marketing over the past 18 months may be lost.

I spoke with Jason Guidry of Halifax Partnership’s SmartBusiness Program about my concerns, and he recommended the Virtual Adviser Program with BoomersPlus.

Not long after applying, I met with Boomers Plus virtual adviser, Pete. Because of his knowledge of marketing and sales, he helped determine the best way to get in front of our targeted markets, hone our messaging, and think about we can target our addressable international markets more effectively. In addition, having his experience in the Toronto market was a perfect match in helping refine our export strategy.

He took the time to get to know our business with a valuable and action-packed three-hour call.

I would highly recommend the program—it gave us the reassurance and quality advisory services to help grow our marketing strategy during a global pandemic.
