Rimot grows sales with new online store

Posted: December 18, 2020

Halifax Partnership launched the ShopHERE powered by Google program in Halifax in October to help local businesses build or enhance their online stores, increase their digital presence, and minimize the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by reaching new and existing customers.

ShopHERE supported Rimot in launching its e-commerce site in November, 2020. Akin Guler, Channel Sales Manager at Rimot, shares Rimot’s experience in the program and the benefits to the company.

  1. Tell us about Rimot.

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Dartmouth Rimot traditionally provides organizations with powerful insight and control for their remote business-critical RF infrastructure. Since the onset of COVID-19, we saw an opportunity to make workplaces safer and used our technology to develop RimotHEALTH Workplace Health Screening unit, a touchless thermal camera and automated questionnaire that can screen people for symptoms of COVID-19. We are now selling RimotHEALTH across North America and Europe.

2. Why did Rimot become involved with the ShopHERE program?

After building a relationship with Halifax Partnership through their SmartBusiness program, Jason Guidry, Director of Trade & International Partnerships, reached out to me because he saw our product as a good fit for the opportunity. I thought since we are currently selling RimotHEALTH across North America and Europe, the ShopHERE program would be beneficial in supporting this launch of our new technology, so we decided to give it a try.

3. What do you like most about the program and why?

The transition to e-commerce was such an easy shift with support from Digital Main Street, Shopify and Halifax Partnership. Overall, my favourite thing about the ShopHERE program was how user-friendly it was. We found it so easy to add, remove or make any changes to our website. We can easily do necessary changes ourselves with minimal support in the process.

4. Would you recommend this program to someone? If so, why?

Yes, I would. With COVID-19, it has been so hard to reach potential customers in the usual ways. Businesses can’t travel, and can’t attend in-person events, so you need to find different ways to reach your customers particularly online. The ShopHERE Program is a great option for businesses to be able to reach potential customers at your fingertips and Halifax Partnership makes the process easy. It’s also a win-win situation for companies because the initial cost is covered for participating businesses. The only thing you need to invest is your time, which you must do to build a business anyway.

5. What would you say to someone who is thinking about applying to the ShopHERE program?

Don't wait, go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
