The benefits of competition have been a central tenet of economics going back 250 years to Adam Smith. Competitive pressure drives firms to provide value to customers, to keep prices in check, and to seek efficiency in turning inputs into outputs, that is, to maximize productivity.
Standards, licensing requirements, and regulations are necessary to protect consumers and advance the public good, but sometimes these measures are poorly designed and implemented.
Join us on June 5, 2025, for our second Productivity Puzzle event, where we will explore:
- How can we regulate more effectively to properly protect the public without unnecessarily burdening businesses?
- How do we reduce barriers to trade across borders so that competition and choice for consumers are increased?
- Do we need to more deeply embrace a consumer-first mindset in our policymaking?
