Halifax Index 2022

The transition from 2021 into 2022 feels like an especially significant turning point. While 2021 marked another long year under the shadow of the pandemic, mid-way into 2022 we seem to be emerging from COVID, although no one would yet say that we are in a post-COVID world. The 2021 to 2022 handover also marks the shift to a new five-year economic strategy for Halifax, that in many ways is a continuation of the last and builds on its success.

Halifax Index 2021

2020 was unlike anything any of us have seen or could have predicted. Coming into 2020, Halifax was in a strong position, making progress towards Halifax’s long-term Economic Growth Plan vision. But like most of the world, COVID-19 significantly impacted many aspects of our economy and community. However, Halifax has shown continued resilience throughout this difficult year and there are signs that economic recovery is well underway.

Halifax Index 2020

Halifax lived through a tale of two years. In 2019 we saw strong economic growth, a growing population, and record business confidence. Labour force, employment, international student, and youth retention indicators were all very positive. We began 2020 with well-deserved optimism that it would be Halifax’s best year ever.
