This month we talked to Steven Burns, Chief Executive Officer at Bulletproof Solutions Inc. Bulletproof defines itself as more than an IT services company: it offers strategy and a comprehensive selection of advanced technologies and know-how to assure clients’ success.

Tell us about Bulletproof and the greatest opportunities/challenges that lie ahead?

“Our greatest opportunity is also our biggest challenge. GLI Capital Group in Lakewood, New Jersey acquired Bulletproof in a strategic acquisition in June 2016. As a result, Bulletproof will become the global brand for Professional and Managed Services for GLI’s customers and suppliers. This will give us reach in over 20 countries and four continents – a huge opportunity – but building a sales model that is supported by the right delivery model is the challenge. We believe we have the right strategy for both, and when we execute that strategy we expect to grow significantly.”

What do you see as the greatest advantages of operating a business in Halifax?

“We have been in Halifax for over six years, initially coming here as a result of an acquisition in the region. The advantage of being in Halifax is simple: we have access to an entire market that is no more than a 30 minutes’ drive from one end to the other. Compared to other markets that we do business in such as New Brunswick, it is a huge advantage when accounting for travel and expenses needed to service our customers. The other major advantage as we grow globally is that the airfare connections are easily accessible.”

Hiring youth is important to the economic growth of Nova Scotia. What is your company doing?

“Bulletproof has over 120 employees, and for many years we hired 10 year plus veterans as team members. However, as we grow significantly we recognize the need to work with the local universities and colleges to build the right curriculums that line up with our growth.”
