Jason Guidry, Director of Trade and International Partnerships
The city of Portsmouth, England, recently hosted Jason Guidry, Director of Trade and International Partnerships with Halifax Partnership, and a significant delegation of Canadian companies aiming to develop new business relationships in the UK.
“Strengthening ties between Halifax and Portsmouth opens the door to new and expanded business, trade, investment, and supply chain opportunities and partnerships that will accelerate business and economic growth in both our regions,” says Jason.

This visit marks a notable step in the international “sister city” economic partnership formed between Halifax and Portsmouth in 2023. Both regions are working to develop opportunities for businesses and explore partnerships between naval bases and ports, visitor economy links, and best practices in clean technology and sustainability.
During the visit, Maritime UK Solent hosted an event at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, bringing together over 70 Solent-based and Canadian businesses. This gathering provided a platform for sharing maritime business opportunities.
Jason also met with 14 Portsmouth businesses who were interested in diversifying their supply chain by finding trading partners, new markets, and customers in Canada. The discussions focused on expanding opportunities in data and digital services, life sciences, satellite applications and maritime.
Councillor Steve Pitt Leader of Portsmouth City Council with responsibilities for Economic Development said, “in a changing world, international cooperation is vital. We are seizing every opportunity to help our businesses grow and strengthen our local economy. Welcoming the Canadians highlighted a real potential to further develop significant partnerships for our businesses and visitor economy.”
Building on the success of this visit, Halifax Partnership and Portsmouth will host virtual trade events throughout the year to support ongoing business and economic development between the regions.
