No idea is too big for us

We are focused on growth in our economy and our population. We are also city builders.

Creating Vibrant Communities

In alignment with the goals of Halifax's Economic Growth Plan, we bring the right people together around the table to make things happen. We’ll work together to build a successful strategy, with the aim of making Halifax a better place to live and work.

In Halifax, almost anything is possible. Here are a few initiatives we’ve proudly been a part of.

African Nova Scotian Community Economic Development

The Road to Economic Prosperity Action Plan is a collaborative plan developed and owned by the African Nova Scotian (ANS) community, in partnership with Halifax Regional Municipality and the Halifax Partnership, to advance economic development and community priorities. Consultations were held with ANS communities throughout Halifax Regional Municipality to identify key issues and actions that will address historic and present-day economic prosperity challenges and opportunities.

eBay Retail Revival Halifax

eBay's Retail Revival Halifax Program

eBay’s Retail Revival is an international e-commerce training program aimed to help small and medium-sized businesses harness the power of global trade. In January 2019, Halifax was selected as the first Canadian launch city based on the strength of the business community, opportunity for e-commerce growth and the region's commitment to small business and vision for economic growth.

Over the 12-month pilot, 60 local retailers from across Nova Scotia were provided tailored workshops and supports to grow their online sales. As a result, 99.9% of sales generated from the program occurred outside of the province and 80% occurred outside of Canada, creating overnight exporters.

eBay's Retail Revival Halifax was a collaborative initiative in partnership with the Halifax Regional Municipality, supported by the Government of Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, and program partners Halifax Partnership, Nova Scotia Business Inc. and Saint Mary’s University.

Halifax's Smart Cities Challenge

Halifax's Smart Cities Challenge proposal

The Smart Cities Challenge was a national competition to identify the best proposals for a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology. Halifax worked with more than 30 local organizations to create a proposal that would help us address food insecurity in our city. The project generated ideas, partnerships, and commitments that are still underway.

Halifax Amazon HQ2

Amazon HQ2

When Amazon went looking for a 2nd headquarters in North America, Halifax jumped at the challenge to showcase all that we have to offer. From space to talent, we wanted to show the rest of the world that Halifax is the richest in skills assets of any mid-sized North American city. We showcased the best of our city to companies around the world.
